Daughters of Charity Services Launches Vincentian Values Week 2021

A new national campaign Vincentian Values Week is set to launch later this month, running from September 27 – October 1. The campaign aims to raise awareness of the scope of injustice today and empower others to offer a true Vincentian service to people in need.

Vincentian Values Week was designed by Daughters of Charity Services, a UK charity dedicated to responding to current and emerging poverties. The charity will host a range of online events throughout the week, including educational talks on the 400-year Vincentian history and how the values can be adopted today to help transform lives.

The launch of the campaign falls on Feast Day of Saint Vincent de Paul and will be opened with a special message from the Archbishop of Westminster, Cardinal Vincent Nicolas, at an online gathering on Monday 27th September at 11am. Daughters of Charity Services welcomes anyone working within a Vincentian organisation to take part in the week, as well as like-minded individuals who support people in need.

Vincentian organisations embrace the diversity and dignity of each individual and create a culture in which people can be their best selves. The values derive from the works of St Vincent de Paul and St Louise de Marillac, whose legacies have inspired thousands of people to offer a caring and compassionate service to people in need since 1617.

In 2014, 15 Vincentian organisations in the UK came together to agree upon and commit to a set of values that distil the core characteristics of Vincentian organisations. These values will be a central theme to the activities during Vincentian Values Week:

  1. Serving people who are experiencing the effects of poverty

  2. Respecting each person’s dignity

  3. Being compassionate and kind

  4. Enabling choice and change

  5. Acting in solidarity for justice
