Daughters of Charity Services welcomes the election of Pope Leo XIV

In this Jubilee year, we have been called upon to be ‘Pilgrims of Hope’. The election of Pope Leo XIV provides fresh hope for the world, as he seeks to lead us towards a more meaningful dialogue with others and greater peace.

The selection of the papal name Leo recalls the radicalism of Pope Leo XIII, who sought to highlight the urgency of bringing our Gospel values into practice in a divided and highly unequal society through Catholic Social Teaching. We share this commitment to the preferential option for the poor in our own Vincentian Charism.

In his first public address, Pope Leo XIV issued a clear call to openness, welcome and encounter:

“We have to look together how to be a missionary Church, building bridges, dialogue, always open to receiving with open arms for everyone, like this square, open to all, to all who need our charity, our presence, dialogue, love.”

We pray for Pope Leo XIV, for the whole Church, and for all those we seek to serve.

Who we are.

We are a family of Vincentian charities responding practically to present and emerging poverties across Great Britain. Inspired by our Vincentian roots, together we stand in solidarity with the most vulnerable people in our society and work to challenge structural injustices.

What we do.

In building on the legacy of the Daughters of Charity of St Vincent de Paul, we continuously seek out the greatest poverties across society and put ourselves at the service of those most vulnerable. Our core team provides a range of tailored support services that enables our front-line work to take place and to ensure the voices of those experiencing poverty are heard.

DC Services

Our impact.

From operating food banks to befriending vulnerable and elderly citizens, the services provided by each of our front-line projects are highly diverse, but all share a common commitment to serve people who are experiencing hardship in the spirit of St Vincent de Paul.

Daughters of Charity Services

Why we are different.

We work in a truly Vincentian way where the whole person is addressed, rather than simply the situation which has led a client to access our services. We respect and embrace every person’s capabilities and strengths, and equip them to find their own solutions.
