Who we are.

About us.

Helping the elderly.jpg

We are Daughters of Charity Services, a family of Vincentian charities across Great Britain dedicated to improving the lives of people experiencing the effects of poverty, as inspired by the life of St Vincent de Paul.

Despite our charities being highly diverse, they share a great history and a common commitment to a set of Vincentian values. Each of our front line charities were established by the Daughters of Charity of St Vincent de Paul - a worldwide network of Catholic women founded by St Vincent de Paul, who for centuries have dedicated their lives serving those living in poverty.

In the context of the ageing population of the Daughters, and consequently their reduced presence, Daughters of Charity Services was founded in 2012 by the Daughters in Great Britain to ensure the Vincentian charism and ethos - which has driven the charitable works of the Daughters across the world for almost 400 years - continues to live in practice within our charities, and that the voices of those living in poverty are heard.

What we do.

Readiness to Respond.

Daughters of Charity Services functions as a central resource hub for the benefit of our wider family. Our core team provides a range of tailored support services to ensure our front line work is well placed to continue to respond to current and emerging poverties. We offer practical support with: finance, fundraising, human resources, operations and strategy, campaigning and communications and, crucially, living out our shared values.

Serving those in need.

From tackling loneliness to delivering essential food, we focus on the service of those in greatest need across society, as well as the development of new initiatives and services as practised for centuries by the Daughters of Charity of St Vincent de Paul. We are committed to collaboration at all levels, advocacy, and the fostering of ownership and innovation with the wider Vincentian Family in order to speak out together against structural injustice.

Vincentian Values.

It is absolutely vital that each of our services operate in a truly Vincentian way, where the whole person is addressed rather than simply the situation which has led a client to access a service. We believe that in understanding the history, heritage and development of the Vincentian movement, all of those working to serve vulnerable people through our charities will ensure that the Vincentian values remain alive and evident in the service and care provided today and into the future.

A major element of our work at Daughters of Charity Services is to deepen and further enshrine our shared values within and across Vincentian organisations at all levels, from front-line staff to senior managers. We promote these values through our Vincentian Values Today (VIVAT) programme, which seeks to inspire every member within our family to embrace, live out, deepen and transmit the Vincentian spirit in the contemporary context of our day.

Pastoral Care.

Vincentian Pastoral Care is intended to support the personal, emotional and spiritual wellbeing of individuals through direct encounter and companionship. We are wholly committed to  supporting the further development of Pastoral Care throughout our family of charities in order to integrate good organisation and compassionate presence in a seamless practice of person-centred care.
